Dotty’s not just another casino says chief operating officer

WINNEMUCCA — Some locals reacted with a yawn to the news a casino was being built at the corner of Potato Rd and Construction Way. Another casino?

But Chief Operating Officer Mike Eide wants you to know Dotty’s is not like all the others. Missing are the televisions, sports betting, gaming tables, and loud music.

Instead, Dotty’s is well-lit, quiet, and homey. The slant-top machines will be spaced so customers can sit comfortably. The inside will have lots of windows, and the outside will be nicely landscaped. There will be no bar, but there will be tables for clients who would like to have a drink or order something to eat.

The décor will be decidedly kitschy. Eide said, “It’s designed to look like your grandmother’s kitchen.”

Dotty’s are built to appeal to an older clientele and Eide said the number one beverage served is water, the number two is coffee, the third is Baileys – perhaps to go with the coffee. Eide said less than 10 percent of the company’s revenue comes from alcohol sales.

There are about 70 Dotty’s throughout Nevada with the two closest being in Elko. There are six Dotty’s near Wal-Mart superstores, the only casinos allowed so close to the retail giant, Eide said, which is known to be protective of its family-friendly image.

Eide said the project is still months away. Although they have applied for the gaming license, that process will take about six months.

Eide commented, “We’re excited about coming to Winnemucca. We think we can be a good corporate citizen to the town and look forward to doing business there.”

He added, “The people we’ve worked with have been very, very friendly.”

Michael Clay construction has been contracted to build the structure, and Eide said local vendors will be used during the construction process.
